Mystical chains bound the wolf
to stop the encroaching ragnorok
But breaking free with vicious claws
fought Odin at full chock
Odin said “OI! Wolfy boy”
“Why don’t we instead have a rest”
“Lets have a couple of horns of mead”
“And maybe a game of chess”
Fenrir, puzzled opened up his gob
“Look Odin I don’t have thumbs”
“you’ll have to do the moving pieces”
“No cheating, I’m not dumb”
Odin filled a huge bowl of mead
Set up the board by the hearth
to keep himself and the doggie warm
so the game could be a bit of a laugh.
Odin said “No need for chills”
“Lets start playing by this fire”
eyeing the drinking giant wolf
thoughts starting to conspire
The game started and Fenrir smiled
His rook at taken Odin’s queen
But unknowingly he didn’t realise
this was something Odin had dreamed.
Complacent Fenrir was to involved
on the strategy on the board
Until Odin picked him right up then
And threw him tail and all.
So instead of Odin dying inside
of that giant wolf’s big belly
Fenrir was burned all crispy
And exceptionally smelly
