Cogito, Ergo Sum

Posted on 05/12/2025 by admin

The dinner party was a success, the guests dined on several beautiful courses exquisitely crafted while savouring wines paired for each dish until the finish where coffee and bandy were served. In turn each of them discussing their favourite topics. The movie star talking about her most glamourous role, the author chatting whimsically about her next book, but all turned and stared when the philosopher spoke.
“So as Descarte said “Cogito, Ergo Sum” roughly translated, “I think therefore I am.”. Imagine this all of you do not really exist, you are just aspects of my imagination, my reality. A dream really. Something which has been created just to fool me of what reality really is. So how can I discern the truth of what reality is? Descarte took this down to a level where he had the assumption that because he could think and have thought, therefore he existed. Since I cannot perceive what you guys are thinking and only what Im thinking maybe, perhaps you are just playthings in a reality which I am making up.”
Seeing the palpable silence, he smirked “Relax, its just Philosophical crazy talk. I need the loo”
They watched him leave, all eyes on the philosopher before the movie star spoke
“You do know, we better keep him alive our reality is at stake” As they faded out from existence, waiting for him to come back from the toilet.
